HARUN RAHMAN - FOUNDER / DIRECTOR

Nuvista Media’s founder, Harun Rahman, is an avid documentary filmmaker with more than 30 years of experience. Right from the start, Harun steered the company into the realm of the natural world. An avid diver, his first commitment to nature was a documentary on Malaysia’s underwater world. He continued his love for nature by directing and filming a whole series of natural and wildlife documentaries including “Among the Great Apes with Michelle Yeoh” and “Sumatra’s Last Tigers”. Harun has won awards locally and internationally.

He takes pride in working frequently with NGOs on projects that carry strong messages, which revolve around environmental, animal protection and other social issues. Harun leads NGO RIMAU's anti-poaching efforts and was also the former President of the Malaysian Documentary Association (MyDocs).

LARA ARIFFIN - PRODUCER

Lara has been producing documentaries for more than 20 years and has worked on a vast range of projects from wildlife to history, megastructures and archaeology. She has produced for international broadcasters including the National Geographic Channel, History Channel and Channel NewsAsia. Several of her films have won awards locally and internationally. These include “Among the Great Apes with Michelle Yeoh”, “Sumatra‘s Last Tigers”, “On Borrowed Time”, “Rising Sun Over Malaya” and “The Highland Towers Disaster”. 

But her passion has always been in conservation. Throughout her career, she has worked with various NGOs to make short documentaries that have changed attitudes towards the way we treat our planet and its animals. She has been heavily involved in tiger conservation over the last 5 years and is now the President of RIMAU, an NGO dedicated to saving tigers.  

NAVEENDRAN JAYABALAN -CAMERAMAN / EDITOR

Naveen is a documentary cameraman and editor with a passion for capturing and telling compelling stories. With 7 years of experience, he has filmed everything from the lush wildlife in Malaysia’s rainforest to the construction of Kuala Lumpur's mass rapid transit tunnels 40 metres deep below the ground. Naveen's work takes him to the frontlines of storytelling, where he is constantly searching for the elements that make a story truly captivating.

As a documentary filmmaker, he has met countless characters who have opened his eyes to new perspectives and experiences. For Naveen, the joy of his work comes from exploring the world through the eyes of others.

Naveen's vision for documentary filmmaking and storytelling extends beyond just stating facts. He believes that documentaries can be used to entertain, raise awareness, and bring people closer together. Through his work, Naveen seeks to bridge the gaps between cultures and promote greater understanding of the world around us.

AMIRA AFENDI - PRODUCER / PRODUCTION MANAGER

Amira has been part of the team for almost 10 years, with a combined experience in production management and administration, pitch development and documentary production. 

Amira mainly hustles behind the scenes - shaping story and script through meticulous researching, establishing relationships with clients and collaborating closely with production team. 

Having worked on projects from a spectrum of genres - from the environment, construction to human interests,  Amira is especially interested on projects that give voice to the unsung heroes, the forgotten ones and marginalised communities - when a nobody does something extraordinary.

FAKRULRAZI MD ZAIN - SOUNDMAN / CAMERA ASSISTANT

Fakrulrazi, or better known as Acik has an experience of almost 20 years in the media industry where he hold various roles in behind-the-scene production support - mainly as soundman and camera assistant. 

Although Acik has worked on a variety of programme genres including television programmes, dramas and travelogues, Acik discovers that his passion lies in documentary filmmaking - especially the ones where he can explore the hidden gems of Malaysia's rainforests and natural treasure.
